Tribute to Don Arquímedes Rivero

 
Arquimedes Rivero was born in Pinar del Rio, Cuba the 30th of April of 1930. With only fifteen years of age, Arquimedes started his artistic career at a local theater as the leading actor. The next year he became a radio host of the radio station CMAB of Pinar del Rio.

In 1947, Arquimedes went to work to the capital, Habana, as a radio actor. He made many famous radio novels for the station “R.H.N. Cadena Azul”, which at the time was the major radio station in Cuba. The next year, he was hired at the “C.M.Q.” as the leading actor of their radio novels. While in Habana, Arquimedes also worked in many theaters with some of the most renowned actors of Cuba at the time. Shortly after, Arquimedes moved to the Dominican Republic to direct the radio station called “Ondas Ismeñas” , but in 1953, he moved once again to Nicaragua to direct another radio station

called “La Voz de America Central”. At the end of that year, he returned to Habana to work at “C.M.Q. Television”, at the soap opera “Phillip” in which he shared stage with the famous Gina Cabrera.

At the end of 1954, Arquimedes moved to Venezuela, and worked as an actor in “RCTV: Radio Caracas Television”. In 1955 he directed the radio station called “Radio Rumbo” where they broke the record of 34 soap operas broadcasted daily. In 1960, Arquimedes received a call and an offer to be the Director of Dramatics of “RCTV”. At that time, they were producing the best soap operas of the country, allowing the TV station to remain on top on the charts.

Between radio and television, Arquimedes has managed more than 500 soap operas. He has discovered many actors and actresses that today have leading roles in different parts of the world, such as: Fernando Carillo, Gaby Spanic, Maria Conchita Alonso, Soya Smith, Catherine Fullop and many others. Arquimedes has also been acknowledged with more than 50 awards for acting and directing. To mention a few, 18 “Guaicaipuros de Oro”, 7 “Meridianos de Oro”, “ACE International” and 10 “Maras de Oro”.

In 1988, Arquimedes started working at Venevision. He was in charge of the dramatics production nationally and over seas. He was also in control of the election of the actors and the writers. Arquimedes is currently working at Venevision Productions as Executive Director. Some of the many examples of the soap operas he has participated in are:
